Finals Preparation

Dead week practically doesn’t exist for a musical theatre major. While I’m grateful I didn’t choose a major that includes studying a book for hours on end, performance finals definitely keep us busy. The week after Thanksgiving break, we jumped right back into the Holiday Spectacular. We only had two days, without any rehearsals and those were probably my most productive days the entire semester. Most of my final week preparation involves working on dances, songs, or scenes with a partner. We also had auditions on Wednesday, for our play and musical next semester. We are doing 42nd Street and A Doll’s House, and I’m just hoping I get to work in one of them! We had to prepare a song and two monologues, which is quite a bit for one audition. I haven’t had to do this much for an audition since my auditions for college. I probably started preparing a bit late, and didn’t use my Thanksgiving break very wisely. The audition went well though for the amount of nerves I had going into it! I was super proud of myself and have made some big breakthroughs in the last couple of weeks in the semester. The rest of this week we have callbacks for both shows, and then the start of finals week. I am so excited to finally go home for Christmas, and get ready for the second semester. I am definitely getting pretty homesick, but I am really enjoying spending time with my friends. Lately we’ve been spending a lot more time together inside and outside of rehearsals. We’ve been prepping for our dance composition showcase together, helping each other out by performing in each other’s dances. I’m noticing all of us are staying up later, forgetting what time it is and going to bed so late. We are enjoying each others company so much, I almost forget how much I want to go home. I am overall excited about this semester ending, but I am so grateful for all of the memories I’ve made this year. So excited for Christmas, and finally getting to see all of my family!

  1. Hi Olivia! I am so proud of all that you have accomplished just in the past week - closing Holiday, auditioning for our spring season, and prepping for finals tomorrow in our acting classes. I know that our experiences as performance majors are so different from what other people know, but I think you're doing a great job despite having almost all of your finals on dead week along with auditions! You've got this girl!
