Book Review
Overall, I thought the book was very helpful. It was easy to read and understand, and the quizzes at the end were very helpful for studying later on. Each chapter was very specific, and I thought they each had things that were a little bit obvious to me, but also some things that were things I did not know. I feel like I’m in the middle of social media users. I have many of the platforms, but I don’t use a lot of them often. I post personally, but using them for professional means is a completely different thing. I thought the first few chapters like, Instagram, Twitter, Tik-Tok, and Snapchat were much more familiar to me, and much of the chapter was things I already felt like I knew. Other chapters like Linked-In, Pinterest, and YouTube I didn’t have much familiarity with, and learned much more. I’m very glad I learned so much about these specific platforms, because I really don’t use them as much as other shows. Especially now, I know how important is to get a Linked-in account as soon as possible. Even though I’m not exactly in a typical major that goes after professional opportunities in a certain way, and Linked-in doesn’t have as much on professional actor opportunities, it still is a very good resource to get your name out there. I also really enjoyed my simulation, and I thought that was one of the most helpful things for me this entire class. It is one thing to say you understand how to market on social media, but actually doing it was completely different. I really struggled to make sure I was monitoring what did well and what did not, and making sure I was changing those based on what performed well. I had a hard time figuring out what posts were doing good, and I especially struggled with the influencer portion. I paid a lot of money for them to post for me, but got basically nothing in return. I tried again the next time, but it still didn’t end up being anything helpful for me.
