Podcasts & Blogs & Vlogs, Oh my!
When I first think about blogs, my mind goes to moms. I have never really been someone who follows any blogs, but my mom occasionally sends me random blogs that have an inspirational message. Something about mother daughter relationships or tips for going away to college. Blogs are a good ways to give people a voice, and to let them write for a creative outlet. I liked the way the chapter said it humanizes the brands. It could be a quick way to give a lot of information to your customers and get quick feedback. I feel like blogs are something you have to actively follow, so you know the most involved followers are giving feedback. It could create a good back and forth between the company and customers, but it does seem to take a lot more work than other platforms do. Vlogs are something I’ve seen much more on a personal level instead of brands. I had a big phase of life where I loved watching vloggers on YouTube. I don’t think I’ve ever bought something off of a vlogger’s video that they showed as an ad, but I remember seeing them frequently. Podcasts are something I’ve gotten into more recently, and I love to listen to them when I clean up or if I’m on a long drive and get sick of my music. Some of my favorites are crime podcasts where they cover crime cases. These podcasts usually have quick 30 second ads which grab my attention, because they are usually funny. It’s a nice quick break from the downer that is crime cases. I don’t know how successful quick ads like that are, but it definitely implements the idea in your head. One of the crime channels I watch uses the same brands almost every episode. One of the brands is a security system for your house with easy setup features, so that anyone can do it. I think this is the perfect advertisement for someone listening to a podcast, who probably has some superstition around crime and now feels the need to buy a security system.
I totally agree, to me blogs equal moms. When we first started writing these blogs, I was so lost, but honestly it's been nice to have an outlet where I can share what's going on in my life, even if no one else reads it. I feel like people can be their true selves through blogs, vlogs and podcasts. You're behind a screen and can be who you want to be.
ReplyDeletePutting ads into podcasts that are relevant to the people listening seems like it would work really well. I especially like the idea that security system ads tend to be in crime story podcasts, and it makes sense. When people are thinking about crime they are probably also thinking about their own security or, more likely, their lack of security. Making your product seem very easy to set up is important, especially if you can make it seem like the hardest part of setting up the product is buying it before setting it up.
