YouTube Marketing

YouTube is the biggest video platform site, and has over 2.3 billion active users monthly. Not only does it reach billions of people, but more than 5 billion videos are watched every single day. Those numbers alone are enough to make me think of YouTube as a great marketing platform, and putting that together with the fact that YouTube is a self produced platform it could be such a good way to get your content out quickly and easy. Personally, I think YouTube could be very helpful for me, because a lot of marketing that goes into theatre is self taped videos. Getting your name out into the world, and having something on a platform that maybe could be seen from someone who is casting a show could be very helpful. Also, theatre companies are now requiring performers to post self tape videos, to audition for shows. It is an easy way to comb through hundreds of auditions, and can be left up for as long as you want for someone to come across. Add your YouTube link to your website, and you are golden. Your reels and self tapes are easily accessible, and able to be seen by anyone who may want to cast you. Some audition videos even go viral, and I’ve seen many reposted on other platforms. Having a video go viral could be a way to jumpstart your career, without even realizing it. Videos are such a fun way for people to get to know companies, and so much more can be said in a video than can be in a post. If I see a long post, I am most definitely skipping over it or skimming through. If a video were to be posted with some kind of cool visual, I probably would be sucked in and watch the entire thing, even if I wasn’t that interested in what was going on in it. The most popular YouTube accounts are all over the place, and it seems like YouTube can be used no matter what kind of business or personal platform you have.

  1. I agree with you that YouTube would be a great platform for someone in theater to get their name out there. I always wanted to start a YouTube channel as I'd love to post drawing videos or design tutorials, so maybe I will begin to look into that as YouTube is a site where many people gain attention.

  2. That’s interesting that theatre companies use self taped videos posted on YouTube to audition for roles. It is definitely useful to have your videos out in the open, as it is more likely that a company will see it rather than auditioning one-on-one over and over again. It does make sense to have a portfolio of your work available for potential employers to come across online. A similar thing is done in the software development world, except instead of videos of yourself on YouTube it is examples of your code on a website called GitHub.
