Beginning of Holiday Spectacular!
Last week, we started the ONU Holiday Spectacular, a show ONU puts on every year. Last year, the show did not get put on because of Covid. This year, the theatre world does not seem to stop moving. We are lucky we are getting back to normal, but it definitely is taking some getting used to. As soon as Beauty and the Beast ended, we started Holiday. I crave being this busy with constant rehearsals, and I look forward to going everyday. I only start to dread having to go when it’s cold and rainy outside, and I would rather cozy up in my room and take a nap. This weather really takes a toll on your body, and I can’t imagine playing a sport that trains or plays outside this time of year. We are lucky everything takes place indoors, the only thing that sucks is the walk to Taft. Holiday Spectacular gets put on very fast, and we only have 5 weeks to rehearse and put on the show. I was cast as a swing, which means I have to learn everything but most likely won’t go on unless someone else cannot. All of the swings have to learn every number, and stay on top of everyone’s spacing so that we know every person’s track. It is sad to not be performing, but I’m lucky I am still in the rehearsal room and I know that swinging will be a very good tool for me in the future. My brain is so full even though were only a week and a half in, but I am trying to keep up the best I can. Since the show is put on every year and most of the choreography is the same, many of the cast keep their track year after year. This means usually most of the cast know the choreography, and only a few people are new to it. This year, because they took a year off, there are two full classes who are new to the show. This has created much more chaos, but everyone is in work mode. Luckily, the show is only an hour long and it is all Christmas music that most people already know. Lots of times I had to learn the harmonies, but the words were already in my head.
I have also noticed the strain on my body with the change in weather! Stretching in jazz class feels like I'm not warming up at all. You are doing a fantastic job learning all of the songs and choreography for Holiday! I love to see you out of the corner of my eye while we run numbers. I can't wait to get to perform this fun show with you!
