Chapter 2 Reaction

This chapter had very similar topics to one of my favorite sections of my introduction to arts administration class I took last semester. I recently picked up an arts administration minor, and have only gotten through the introduction class. I enjoyed most of the class, but one of the most interesting topics we covered was marketing and branding. We even got to create our own business, and a large part of our grade was the brand theme throughout the entire business. A small part of our branding and marketing was to take it to social media, so I’m excited to dive deeper into that in this class. Especially with the class discussing how our generation is so comfortable on social media and it’s such a large part of our lives, I’m excited to see how that carries over into a business standpoint. It’s interesting to see how much farther ahead our generation would be as compared to people who aren’t social media equipped. In the chapter it mentions how making sure your name is clear, and you have a bio that clearly states what your business. It even explains how to create a twitter account. Editing your bio, creating a profile picture, or creating an account would not be something you’d have to teach our generation. To me, that seems like basic level social media that is common sense. I do wonder if our generation would have trouble using social media professionally at first, because of how second nature it is for us as a personal platform. The social media etiquette rules may also be a little odd to someone who uses social media as personal accounts, because you do not usually have any restrictions other than those you put on yourself. I do not have any experience on LinkedIn, so the cite would be new to me, but I still would not need as much hand holding as someone without social media. One of the other ways I’ve gotten to work on a brand for myself, is through theatre and creating my own website. I had to create one my senior year of highs school, and I enjoyed it a lot. Branding yourself in theatre  is a bit different than branding for a company, but making sure it is clear to your readers is across both.
