The Perfect Princess

First week of rehearsals completed for ONU’s Beauty and the Beast, and it was the longest week of my life. I don’t love being so busy I don’t have any free time, but I do love being busy with doing things I love. We’ve moved past music rehearsals, and started blocking and dancing. My favorite types of rehearsals are scenes that are set to music, like the opening of Beauty and the Beast. It’s probably one of the most popular songs in the show, that everyone recognizes from the movie. The opening is called Belle, and it’s the villagers song where they open with, Bonjour! The song is not technically a dance number, but all of our movements are blocked and planned out somewhat like a dance piece. I love these numbers, because we have the freedom to make our own character choices, but the whole stage moves with each other as one. I’m playing a Silly Girl, which in my opinion, is one of the most fun parts in the entire show. There are three Silly Girls, and they are obsessed with Gaston. They are not the smartest people in the world, which somewhat makes them even more fun to play. I get to sing, dance, and I have a few lines but only in a few scenes. I am also playing a Napkin, and before you laugh, the napkin is the best part of Be Our Guest.
Never thought a piece of paper is what I’d be dreaming to play, but it is the most fun part of Act 1.

We just got our promotional picture and poster from our director, which means it is getting real! Our Belle, is the most perfect princess from her look to her voice. My character does not like Belle, along with the rest of the town, and she is very different than all of us. That is only our characters though, and all of us have fun together on or off stage. The picture they used is actually Belle from the opening number, Belle. This is the scene I previously talked about, which is the big opening number that sets the show. I am so excited to get to perform, and the energy in the room definitely matches that. Everyone is so eager to get to perform, and I hope you guys get to see it! We run for two weekends and the poster has the rest of the information down below!

  1. Hi Olivia! It is awesome to see that you guys are working so hard for this production! When I saw the promotional picture of Belle on my Instagram feed I immediately thought she was the perfect Belle. From an outsider standpoint, she fits the character extremely well. I am sure her acting also brings the character to life. It may seem tiring being busy so much, but once you have live shows, it will make it all worth it! Good luck!

  2. Olivia! I am so excited to watch you guys perform Beauty and the Beast! I absolutely love this musical, and in-fact my sister performed this show in high school. It's so funny to me because she was also casted as a silly-girl. As someone whose seen this movie and musical a hundred times I'm beyond thrilled I get to watch it again. Your crew has put in so much work since the beginning of the year and I know you guys will kill it! Keep up the hard work and stay busy doing what you love! Can't wait watch you as a silly-girl and a napkin!
