Chapter 4 Reflection
Personally, I am a bit scared to use Facebook because my mom knows how to work it better than me. I think I am finally feeling her pain when she tries to use Instagram or TikTok, and has to ask me for help. It kind of sounds stupid, but I weirdly have an irrational fear that I would post something on accident or share it with the wrong people. I also am not usually the kind of person who shares a lot of details about my life on social media. I use my Instagram frequently, but usually only to post pictures of me and my friends. It’s a weird feeling to not be able to work the platform, and being hesitant to use it. I rarely use Facebook and the only reason I do now is because of theatre. A lot of my directors use Facebook to keep in touch with past cast members, and my past acting teachers use it to keep in touch with alumni. Many shows I’m in also make a facebook group to send messages out, and post videos. It’s a really easy way to get your show out there to a lot of people quick. I guess in a sense I am already using Facebook professionally, but I really don’t post. It’s very important to keep in contact with the people you’ve worked with, and keep those connections close, so I wonder if posting updates of my life would be a smart way of doing that. Usually I think of Facebook as just posting to my mom and all her friends, or older members of my family. Thinking of it as the top platform on social media is a bit overwhelming, but I can see it being very beneficial to find other connections. Especially because the way Facebook puts your posts on peoples wall when you interact with them. It’s a quick way to connect with many people, who have the same connection as you. I also like how much you can write in a Facebook post. On Instagram, the picture is more of the focal point of the post, but on Facebook the message is more important. I think I should definitely start using Facebook more often, to keep the people in my life up to date professionally and a bit personally. If I start now, the transition when I’m really working professionally won’t be as drastic.
